Our knowledge of superfoods keeps evolving over time as our awareness grows regarding how food and nutrients affect health and beauty. Superfoods are easily available and not at all as exotic as the name suggests. Here are some superfoods that have nutrients in them that help to promote healthy hair.

Berries are a Great Source for Hair Growth

Berries are superfoods for hair filled with vitamins that can facilitate hair growth. They contain vitamin C which is an antioxidant. Antioxidants help to protect hair follicles from damage caused by toxic molecules or free radicals. According to research, free radicals contribute to cellular structures being increasingly weakened, having an adverse effect on hair growth. The system makes use of vitamin C to generate collagen, which prevents brittleness in hair and helps healthy hair growth. Vitamin C also helps your body digest iron, preventing anemia which causes hair loss.Acai berries and strawberries containing vitamin C and ellagic acid are two superfoods for hair that can facilitate healthy hair growth.

Eggs Promote Hair Growth

A single egg contains 6-7 grams of protein which is essential for healthy hair growth because hair follicles are mostly made from protein.Eggs yolk is also a source of biotin, which can promote hair growth. Biotin, as a part of the family of B vitamins, has been proven to be one of the effective vitamins for hair growth.

Eggs, as a superfood for hair, also contain other hair growth-enhancing substances, including:

  • L-lysine, which produces DHT blockers in your body and is essential in preventing male pattern baldness.
  • Vitamin D, which enhances healthy hair growth by creating new hair follicles, and
  • Minerals, which include iron, potassium, zinc, and manganese, that assist healthy hair growth.

Leafy Greens Promote Hair Growth

Kale, broccoli, spinach, beet greens, and collard greens are superfoods for hair. They are rich in vitamins A, B, C, E and K vitamins. Spinach contains an abundance of folate and iron, which promotes hair growth.  Iron aids the red blood cells in circulating oxygen in the body to power processes like metabolism and helps in healthy hair growth. Vitamin A helps to make sebum for the skin glands. The adhesive substance helps the scalp grow healthy hair.

Salmon ensures Hair Growth

Healthy fats present in salmon, mackerel, and herring make them superfoods for hair. Omega-3 fatty acids found in these fishes are good for the heart, for hair growth and for the skin and the eyes. That means you will literally be ‘fishing’ for compliments.A study found that consuming a fish oil supplement decreased hair loss substantially and facilitated healthy hair growth in men with thinning hair.

Soybeans Stimulate Hair Growth

Studies have shown that soybean compounds as a superfood for hair can stimulate hair growth. One such compound is spermidine, which is plentiful in soybeans.Test-tube research has found that spermidine stimulates healthy hair growth.Spermidine-based dietary supplements prolong an active hair growth process called the anagen phase. The longer a hair follicle lingers in the anagen stage, the more it develops.

Nut is a Superfood that Promotes Hair Growth

As a superfood for hair, incorporating a healthy amount of nuts in your food intake will significantly reduce thinning and improve hair growth. Walnuts are the only kind of nuts which contain omega-3 fatty acid. Almonds contain an astonishing amount of Vitamin E content which helps against damage risks from UV.
