Birthday during lockdown – Tips to make your day special
Social distancing means staying at home, unless it is absolutely necessary to go outside. It also means that all spring babies will be spending their birthdays at home. Some will have their families around and some will have to find ways to connect with their loved ones. The internet has made many options available for us to be connected with each other while being apart, some of which can be explored to have a blast at your quarantine birthday. Let’s explore some of those options here:
1. Get on a video call: You can be virtually together through any of the video call services. This way you can even have a virtual party. It’s your day and you should be decorating your house and getting a cake. See what party decorations you can find inside your house and get snacks and drinks. Gather your folks and friends online and have fun. Get them to sing dance or play games like dumb charades. Being together does not necessarily mean being in the same room together.
2. Get on virtual gaming platforms: You can have a fun-filled day with your loved ones or with other people around the globe with applications that allow you to play games online. You can catch-up, have a great time and the pleasure of beating a lot of your friends in the games. You can also give them dares to do for when they lose and have the condition that the same doesn’t apply to you because birthday means that you have the upper hand.
3. Get yourself a cake: Most of the ingredients you need to bake a cake are already in your house. Cakes can be made with whole flour, wheat flour, with or without icing or even without an oven. Search for a recipe that fits the ingredients and other resources you have inside the house. If you have your family around, help them out to bake a cake for you. If not, take your parents or someone close to you on call and use their virtual assistance. Spending time together while doing an activity like this will also help you bond with other people. You can also do this in a group and spend time with your gang.
4. Dress up, it’s a special day: Being in quarantine can drain you emotionally, especially if you are living alone. Your birthday is a reason for you to clean up, dress up and celebrate with the people you love the most. Look the part, even if it is a home party because the people you love will be happy to see you lively and you will be able to enjoy your day the most.
5. Prepare for the future: This time is about introspection as well. Now that you have seen an entire year pass by and have time to think about certain things, take the opportunity. This does not mean dwelling on the mistakes made in the past but, putting your thoughts and goals in place. You can research about the things you couldn’t until now, talk to people and be ready to work on them once the situation gets better.
Your special day is about doing the things you love. The most important thing is to have fun wherever you are now, because you can have the best birthday party after the situation gets under control. If you know someone spending their birthday in quarantine, make it special for them by sending cards or gifts through online services that are available. Catch-up with them or organise a surprise virtual party. If you live with them, decorate their room, bake them a cake and have a small party with just the family.
