Is RO Water Good for Health?

RO stands for Reverse Osmosis. What happens during this process? Reverse Osmosis is a technique of water purification that works in contrast to Osmosis. Water passes through a semipermeable membrane, made of Thin Film Composite which traps larger, harmful contaminants like lead, mercury, sediment, among others, leaving behind only clean and purified drinking water.

Now, what worries the average RO using man is that if an RO System traps all the chemicals and contaminants, does it also deplete the water of its essential nutrients? Is it still as healthy and beneficial to consume?

Reasons RO is good for your health

There are several benefits of RO water, but these 3 points will be enough to convince you why you probably need such a system installed in your home and workplace.

Contaminant-Free

An RO System ensures that every kind of impurity is eliminated from water; and you have access only to the safest, cleanest drinking water. These chemicals can often prove to be fatal in the long run, which is why you have to take utmost care and ensure that your RO Water Purifier is working well.

Most RO Purifiers are enabled with a water softener, which removes hard minerals from water. Though excellent for cooking, cleaning, and other activities, the hard minerals are replaced with sodium molecules which often add an odd taste to the water. An RO purification system reduces this sodium content and caters to your requirement of water that quenches your thirst and tastes great, all at once. Hence, if you’re investing in a water purifier online or at your nearest store, make sure it comes with a water softener.

RO Water Tastes Better

Owing to the fact that an RO Water Purifier filters out all the harmful chemicals and retains only the essential nutrients, rest assured your water will taste great!

The various membranes like the Carbon Filter and Sediment Filter are designed to remove harmful elements while retaining the water’s essential nutrients. Moreover, a modern RO Water Purifier is enabled with Advance Recovery Technology™ and Mineralizes Technology which replenishes essential minerals, even if they are lost.  TDS Controllers help with this too. So it’s a win-win situation.

To sum it up, RO water is completely safe and healthy to consume and one of the best options for today’s environment. RO water being bad for health is a myth.

Alternative to RO systems

Boiling

Proper boiling must be ensured. Let the water steam and simmer for a couple of minutes. However, the chemical contamination present in water is not completely eliminated by boiling. Furthermore, boiling may not always be possible anytime in any situation logistically. For example, due to lack of a heat source or shortage of fuel and electricity.

Chlorine

Pour four drops of liquid bleach in one liter of water; 8 drop in per half gallon; and 16 drops in per gallon of water. Let it rest for at least half an hour to make the water drinkable. Excessive chlorine can be dangerous to health so make sure to maintain caution.

Iodine

Pour 5 drops of iodine in per liter of clean water. Add an extra few drops if the water is cloudy. Let it rest for at least half an hour before it is suitable to drink. Iodine is more effective if water temperature is more than 21 degrees Celsius. However, iodine does not kill 100% of the pathogens present in water.

Hope this helped. Remember, in times of the pandemic, drinking clean water free of germs, bacteria and virus becomes all the more important. So follow the sign of the times and switch to an RO purifier or filter if you don’t have one already!
