Un-lock Your Wellness During The Lockdown
Un-Lock Your Wellness During The Lockdown
You can view the next 21 days two ways – either as a necessary lockdown or as an exciting opportunity to get healthier and happier. The first option will probably lead to boredom and frustration. The second option will help kick start your journey to a better you. And that’s what really matters.
21 Days Matter
We all know why the lockdown has been implemented. What some of us may not know is that you can easily cultivate new, healthy habits in the same number of days. The University College London conducted a study where 96 participants were found to develop a habit as early as 18 days. We are not suggesting that 21 days is the magic number. What matters is you can use the period as a near-perfect launch pad to adopt better habits.
Healthy Habits Matter
The Corona crisis has given us a rare opportunity to pause, reflect, and break the cycle of old, unhealthy habits. Here are a few simple things that will help you unlock wellness during the lockdown:
-
Oiling Hair Matters
Healthy hair usually leads to a happy man. Adding a drop of oil to the scalp goes a long way in protecting your precious crown. You can experiment with an interesting range of oils including the trusted coconut oil and the dandruff-fighting neem oil. A quick rub and dub during your morning bath will leave you with hair that rivals the God of Hair himself – Thor.
-
Screen Break Matters
From the scalp, we move on to the mind. Now that we are spending more and more time at home, the temptation to complete a doctorate in Netflix and Amazon Prime can be overwhelming. The constant screen time can leave you feeling tired, with your eyes screaming for a break. We suggest you self-isolate from all screens and tech devices, even if it is for ten minutes. Meditation, or listening to your favourite tunes works as a healthy mental boost.
-
Eating Fruits Matter
Just as the temptation to binge-watch shows and movies is strong, the same can be said of high-calorie, unhealthy snacks. With physical movement restricted, it is a smart option to switch to snacking on fruits as well as dry fruits. They offer half the calories, double the fibre, and a guilt-free conscience. Bring on the smoothies.
-
Light exercise Matters
Your fitness need not be placed under lockdown like the gyms. A simple spot jog for 10-15 minutes can boost your metabolism and work up a sweat. Other options include skipping, push-ups, burpees, free squats, or even the traditional Surya namaskar. When the lockdown is lifted, you will be left with an exercise regimen that you can carry anywhere you go.
-
Washing Hands Matter
Our hands are under the spotlight like never before. While they may not be as comfortable with the attention as a Miss Universe, it is important that you pay the proper attention to them. As a rule of thumb, you should wash your hands before you eat and after you touch foreign objects. Our hands can carry things and carry germs. Washing them at regular intervals will keep harmful viruses at bay.
-
Drinking-Water Matters
The easiest health habit to follow is to hydrate yourself regularly. Drinking enough water boasts a wide range of benefits; from cleaner skin to improved focus. Two litres a day is a good rule to follow. We recommend that you boost your fluid intake with a walkabout as well. Keep a bottle of water away from hand’s reach. When you are thirsty, you will then need to stand up and walk to drink water, giving your legs a much-needed break from sitting all the time.
You Matter
The Corona pandemic has served all of us a timely reminder on what matters most- health. Treat the reminder as a golden opportunity to refresh yourself, and reboot your wellness.
